Botox
Botox injections work to reduce the appearance of wrinkles by blocking nerve signals to muscles, which prevents the muscles from contracting: Injection: A doctor injects a small, weakened dose of botulinum toxin into specific facial muscles. Nerve signal blockage: The toxin prevents nerve signals from reaching the muscles, causing them to relax. Muscle relaxation: The muscles relax, softening and reducing the appearance of wrinkles. Temporary effect: The effects of Botox are temporary and last for about 3–6 months. Repeat treatments: Repeated treatments can lead to longer-lasting effects.
Botox is most often used to treat frown lines, crow’s feet, and forehead lines. It won’t help with wrinkles caused by sun damage or gravity.
Botox is derived from the bacterium Clostridium botulinum, which produces botulinum toxin.
